The agent is thinly applied with a soft brush to the already hardened first half of the silicone mould during the production of multi-part moulds and the newly mixed silicone is poured onto it for the second half of the mould. This prevents the two halves of the mould from sticking together.
The Vaseline can also be used as a sealant for impressions of open-pored materials, such as models made of polystyrene, plaster or untreated wood. It prevents the silicone from flowing into the pores and thus ensures that it can easily be removed again after curing.
